Megha Vyas, Pune and Corona Death: An Investigation


Corona Warrior is a term being used for frontline fighters like health care professionals, police and sanitary workers, among others who are risking their lives for us. Many have died because of Covid-19.



In this context, it is painful to see some fake news being propagated over the social media. The news about the death of Dr. Megha Vyas is one of them. 

Megha Vyas has breathed her last on 24th April, 2020. She was basically from Jodhpur, but was admitted at a private hospital in Pune. As per the records of the hospital, she was admitted on 22nd April. One day later, she died.

Megha was suffering from urosepsis. The immediate reason behind her death was pneumonia. Because of low immunity, her body couldn’t respond to antibiotic treatment.

However, it is quite shocking that she has been termed as a Corona Warrior. Her image along with condolences message started to become viral over Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Indians are posting obituary messages. Some Maharashtrians are paying homage and calling that Maharashtra will not forget your sacrifice, Ms. Megha.

How come?

Her family is also clueless. Doctors of Jehangir Hospitals are also wondering. In fact, we don’t know whether the image being shared is actually her image or is someone else who is still alive. 

If there is any way to know the genesis – the starting point – of this news, then that must find out by the law enforcement agencies. At these tough times of Covid-19 pandemic, the one thing we can avoid is rumors and fake news. Even not – so – harmful – news like this one should be avoided.
